Why does Social Security income determine the Medicare enrollment rate?

Today's question was asked a few days ago. why does receiving Social Security income determine the type of Medicare enrollment?

This is a very important question because some people may make mistakes because they are not informed about this type of Medicare enrollment. There are two types of enrollments depending on Social Security income, whether the person is already retired and receiving Social Security income or not.

In the case of the person who is retired and is receiving income or social security benefits, that is, his monthly check, the government assumes that he is no longer working and does not have any type of health coverage with an employer. For this reason, the government assumes that he/she is no longer working and has no health coverage with an employer. automatically enrolls. If you are one of these people already retired, receiving your monthly check, the government will automatically enroll you in Medicare Parts A and B and you will receive this card in the mail three months before your birthday month.

If the person is not retired, and this is where some people need to pay attention, because if you are one of the people who is still working and you have an employer plan or a private plan, but you are not receiving Social Security benefits, you are not going to get any notice from the government informing you that the period is coming up when you need to sign up for Medicare, because they assume that it is your job to find out and educate yourself about it. Because of this, you need to make a manual enrollment. This enrollment should be done beginning with the initial enrollment period. Ideally, it should be done during the first three months of that enrollment period, especially during the first month, so that your coverage begins on the first of the month of your birthday.

There is an exception for individuals who have a birthday on the first day of the month. For those individuals, the initial enrollment period would begin one month earlier and their coverage would also begin one month prior to their birthday month.

We recommend that you work hand in hand with an independent agent. These consultations with an independent agent will not cost you anything, they are totally free. If you need enrollment, this person is going to help you enroll, educate you on all the coverages that are covered, what is not covered. They will help you with Part A, Part B, what your options are. Medicare A and B only cover 80% medical and hospital services, and you would need to work with an independent agent to help you with Part C, which is a Medicare Advantage plan, Part D which is a prescription drug plan, or enrollment in a supplemental plan or Medigap policy, which is a different option.
