Who qualifies for Medicare?
Who is entitled to Medicare?

Some people think that turning 65 is the only requirement for Medicare, but in reality there are certain requirements to qualify for Medicare.

Medicare is the federal health care system for people 65 years of age or older, people under 65 who have a disability, and people under 65 who have permanent kidney failure and need dialysis or a kidney transplant. But these are not the only reasons. To qualify for Medicare, you must be a citizen or legal resident, or have lived in the country for at least five years and have made Social Security contributions to receive the no-cost portion. If you are not at least a legal resident, you cannot qualify for Medicare. Remember that Original Medicare has two parts, Part A for hospital services and Part B for medical services.

In order to have this Part A at no cost, it is important that you or your spouse have worked in the country for at least ten years and made your contributions to Social Security, which is what you accumulate in quarters, and you need 40 quarters, that is, ten years. If your spouse has not worked, they have not made enough quarters, so they have to wait and continue working until they reach 40 quarters to receive part A at no cost. Part B, which is the medical part, well this does have a cost and everyone needs to pay this part. Unless the person qualifies for the Medicare savings programs or has Medicaid.

On the other hand, this month is health awareness month, so we invite you to stay healthy, take some time to walk, exercise. If you have an Advantage plan, which offers you the gym benefit, take advantage of the nearest gym to go to your Zumba classes or exercise, but stay active. It is also very important to control smoking and alcohol to stay healthy and, of course, eat healthy by cutting down on fast food and trying to eat more fruits and vegetables.

If you need help with your Medicare transition process, we are here to help you at Avila Medicare Solutions, where we guide you through the entire process from start to finish. We help you with Medicare enrollment if you need manual enrollment. Remember that if you are receiving Social Security benefits at least three months before your birthday, this office will do an automatic Medicare enrollment for you, which means you don't have to do anything, just wait for your Medicare card in the mail three months before your birthday. After that, you need an agency to check the Advantage Plans o Supplements.
