Medicare Part D is one of the four parts of Medicare. Part A and Part B, which together make up Original Medicare. Part C, which is what is known as Medicare Advantage plans, and Part D, which is prescription drug plans.

And if you opt for one of the Medicare supplement plans, you need to purchase the prescription drug plan separately, since what a supplemental policy does is simply cover the 20% that Medicare does not cover.
