Everything you need to know!

Medicare Part D is one of the four parts of Medicare. Part A and Part B, which together make up Original Medicare. Part C, which is what is known as Medicare Advantage plans, and Part D, which is prescription drug plans.

It is very important to sign up for this part when you are already eligible for Medicare; that is, as soon as you get Medicare Parts A and B, you need to sign up for Part D, which is the part that will take care of all your prescription drugs. If you do not enroll in Medicare Part D, you will be subject to a penalty for each 12-month period that you are not enrolled in this part. So, it is very important that, even if you do not take prescription drugs, you enroll, because there are plans specifically for these people with a very low monthly premium, simply to avoid a penalty later on.

Remember that with Medicare A and B you also qualify for one of the Medicare Advantage or supplemental plans.

When you opt for a Medicare Advantage plan, these plans usually include the prescription drug plan. And if you opt for one of the Medicare supplement plans, you need to purchase the prescription drug plan separately, since what a supplemental policy does is simply cover the 20% that Medicare does not cover.

If you are a person who takes certain prescription drugs, remember that the drugs are tiered, which is very important. Before doing this review of Medicare Part D plans, have a list of your prescription drugs. This will make the process easier and will help you make a faster and more profitable comparison for you, since with these drugs you can find the plan that is more economical for you and, logically, that gives you more coverage for your medications.
