On this occasion, we would like to inform you of the good news about the Medicare Part B costs for next year, as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has confirmed the costs and deductible for Part B for 2023.
For people with Medicare Part B, who had to pay for it, you know that the cost this year has been $170.10 monthly. With respect to the previous year (2021) it had an increase of $21.60, the highest increase in the entire history of Medicare, but for next year, the monthly premium that this part will have is of $164.90a more economical cost that would save you $5.20.
Also remember that Medicare Part B has an annual deductible, which this year has been $233but for next year it will also have a more economical cost of $226.
Many people who have Medicare and also have an Advantage Plan, for example, do not pay this deductible, but those who have a Medicare supplement plan do have to pay it when they start using the plan.
For those who are reading this blog and still don't know what Medicare Part B is, let's do a quick recap.
The Part B Medicare is, in fact, the part that takes care of the medical services and together with the part A, which is the part for hospital services are what is known as Original Medicare. But what does Medicare Part B cover? Among the things it covers are clinical trials, outpatient services, durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs, certain drugs your doctor may prescribe, and for those who need a special medical bed, too.
When can you enroll in Part B? When you are in the Initial Enrollment Period, that is, when you are already eligible for the first time, that is, 3 months before your 65th birthday. If you are receiving Social Security benefits at this time, and you are already retired, you will be automatically enrolled by the Medicare office and you will receive your card in the mail automatically with Part A and Part B. But if you is not retiredIf you are still working or do not receive Social Security benefits, you need to apply for this coverage through a manual enrollment. You can do it from month 3 before your birthday or during the month of your birthday, but if you do it in the month of your birthday you will delay coverage. So the ideal is to do it starting this period.
Remember, if you are working and have health coverage with your employer, compare the costs and benefits of your health coverage, so you can make the decision to enroll in Part B or delay it. That's the only situation, the only opportunity for someone to be able to delay Medicare Part B. But if you don't have coverage with an employer, you do need to sign up for Part B to avoid penalties and delays, because usually this part is only applied for in the Initial Period or in the Medicare Open Periodwhich is from January 1 to March 31.
