Medicare can tend to be a bit confusing, especially for those in transition, but as experts in the field, our priority is to make it easier for you.
As you know, Medicare is a federal health care program for people turning 65 and some people under 65 who receive Social Security disability benefits for two years or for certain medical conditions.
The main parts of Medicare are Part A and Part B. The Part A is the part that is in charge of all the hospital care and the Part B is the part for medical servicesPart B, which includes doctors, specialists, preventive services, home care, hospice care and some durable medical equipment. This Part B has a current cost of $170.10, but many people are unaware of it until they begin their transition process.
A person who receives Social Security benefits three months before his or her 65th birthday is automatically enrolled. If he or she does not receive these benefits, he or she must apply directly to the Social Security Office for enrollment in this program.
The Parts C and DThese are actually additional coverages that will help you with some costs. It is necessary to apply for these parts depending on your needs and preferences directly to the Social Security Office. Therefore, we recommend that you apply through an insurance company or an independent agency.
Part C is known as the Advantage or Supplemental plansand part D as a plan of prescription drugs.
It is necessary to have a drug plan when you are eligible for Medicare, even if you do not take any type of medication or do not need it, because if you do not have one, you will later be exposed to an 1% penalty for each month you did not have Medicare Part D.
The costs of these plans will depend on the medications you take, but for those who do not take medications, there are plans that have a very low monthly premium.
Our recommendation always, for those transitioning to Medicare, is to work with an independent agency from start to finish. This is a service that is not going to cost you a dime. It is a free service.
This person or company will assist you in your enrollment process. We, for example, help you with Medicare enrollment, educate you by explaining what the card will cover, what it will not cover, what your options are according to your health conditions, the doctors and medications you have and do a review of all the plans available in your area so you can have the ideal coverage you require.
Please give us a call. We represent most insurance companies and our main interest is to help, educate and make sure you have the ideal plan the first time. Our services are free of charge.
If you know someone or you are about to go on Medicare, or if you have Medicare and would like to do a free plan review, we will be happy to help you.
