Medicare Supplement Plan C

This time we will talk about the Medicare Supplement Plan C as one of the most robust Medicare supplement plans available. It is somewhat popular, but its availability is limited due to recent legislation that we will also cover in this video.

Medicare Supplement Plan C will also cover the Part A hospital deductible, as well as 100% of your hospital insurance after that deductible is met, so there is no change there. However, unlike the previous plans, this plan does cover the Medicare copayment for skilled nursing facility stays for days 21 through 100, whereas plans A and B do not cover this benefit. It also covers the first three pints of blood, as well as the Medicare copayment for hospice care.

Another benefit is that Plan C covers the Part B deductible and covers 100% of your Part B insurance, which is generally 20% of the Medicare approved amounts. So, we can see fairly quickly that just between your hospital charges and your doctor's charges, Plan C covers not only the deductibles, but also the co-payment amounts that give you extremely good coverage.

The last benefit added with Plan C is for foreign travel emergencies where it will cover 80% of any foreign travel emergency expenses up to a lifetime maximum of $50,000. You will have to cover the first $250 as well as the remaining 20% of expenses, but Plan C will cover most of these expenses if you travel out of the country and encounter an emergency.

So, with all these additional benefits, what does plan C not cover?

In reality, there is only one benefit that Plan C does not cover and that is the excess charges. As I will recall from our previous blogs on the A-plans y B supplementalFor example, excess charges may be encountered when visiting a physician who does not accept Medicare assignment, which refers to the fees that Medicare considers usual and customary for any given procedure or service.

These physicians may charge an additional cost of no more than 15% above the Medicare allowance and with Plan C, you will be responsible for covering those costs out-of-pocket.

That said, Plan C Supplemental is the most robust plan we've talked about in this sequence. But you should know, if you are a Medicare beneficiary and your Part A coverage became effective before January 1, 2020If your Part A became effective, it may be worth considering this plan because you will be able to purchase or switch to it. But if your Part A became effective as of January 1, 2020this plan will definitely is not available to you.
