Medicare and Medicaid, are they the same?

One of the most common questions that people ask themselves when they are close to turning 65 is whether Medicare and Medicaid are the same or what the difference is between them. In reality, these programs are totally different, since Medicare is the federal health program for people entering their 65th birthday and Medicaid is a state aid offered by the state to people according to the income of the person or the couple, if married and living with their spouse.

The MedicareThe Social Security card is usually applied for when the person is transitioning to the age of 65. It is done directly with the Social Security office and would become effective the first of the month in which the person turns 65. There are some exceptions for people under 65 who qualify, but it depends on certain medical conditions. The MedicaidSocial Security, on the other hand, determines whether or not you qualify based on your income. There are different ways to apply: you can look on the Internet. For example, if you are in Texas, through the Your Texas Benefits page. On this page you create an account and it gives you the option to select which programs you want to apply for from your Medicaid. You can also do this by calling 211 and saying you want to find out if you qualify for Medicaid. Or you can go to the Health and Human Services Commission office in your area.
